BBC Block Party every Thursday through August 18th
Burten, Bell, Carr Development, Inc. (BBC) has kicked off a new campaign for the residents of Central Neighborhood. This campaign, the “Active Neighbors for Healthy Neighborhoods Campaign," is a way for community members to interact and engage in fun, healthy activities. The campaign kicked off on Saturday, June 4, 2011 and is held every Thursday at St. John's Reading Garden (E. 40th & Central) from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Residents can attend these BBC Block Parties through Thursday, August 18th, 2011 for outdoor exercise, healthy cooking demonstrations, food, live music, prizes, and more!
The focus of the Block Party events for the month of August is healthy eating, which provided a great opportunity to let residents know about FreshLink and all the other community initiatives underway, including the Central Community (Food) Co-op, and the Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). Thanks to BBC, FreshLink was able to have a display table at the event on Thursday, August 11, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. FreshLink had live cooking demonstrations, free samples of apple salad and summer pasta salad, watermelons for sale (courtesy of the Co-op), giveaways, and other raffles for the children attending the event. Many of FreshLink's partners also helped to make the Block Party a success. Special thanks to the Central Co-op, EFNEP, Summer Sprout, and the Green Corps for participating in the event and for introducing their initiatives to Central residents. Pictures of the event can be found below. For more Block Party pictures and photos from other FreshLink events, check out the FreshLink Picture Gallery! And be on the lookout for FreshLink and their community partners around your neighborhood!
